In-form Harrington cards seven birdies to move within three shots of the lead in US

The Dubliner is looking for his first tournament win in more than a year.

A SUPERB FOUR-UNDER-PAR third round has put Pádraig Harrington in contention to secure his first tournament victory in more than a year.

The Dubliner produced some excellent attacking golf in good scoring conditions at the Valero Texas Open in San Antonio today.

Harrington registered seven birdies and three bogeys, including birdies on 16 and 17 and a disappointing bogey six on the last, to sit just three shots behind in-play leader Ricky Barnes.

The 44-year-old hasn’t tasted victory since his play-off win at the Honda Classic last March and is well in the mix heading into tomorrow’s final round.

Barnes is currently sitting on 10-under-par after 13 holes, two shots ahead of Luke Donald (16), Charley Hoffman (13) and Brendan Steele (12).

Harrington is one shot further back in a tie for fifth with Billy Horschel, Nick Taylor and Chad Collins.
