Yes, Harry Kane is eligible to play for Ireland and no, he isn't interested

THERE IS PLENTY of buzz about Tottenham striker Harry Kane at the moment, after his match-winning performance in yesterday’s North London Derby.

Following a number of impressive performances this season, the youngster is now considered as integral to the future of English football, with national team boss Roy Hodgson watching on as he netted a brace at White Hart Lane in Saturday’s early kick-off.

And following his magnificent display, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger praised the youngster and urged England to move quickly to secure his services.

“When you have scored the number of goals he has scored, if you don’t put him in there, somebody will give him a passport to another country,” he told reporters.

With Ireland the only other country that Kane is currently eligible to play for (his father was born in Galway), the Gunners boss was presumably referring primarily to Martin O’Neill’s men.

However, England fans need not fear, as when asked about his Irish links back in August, Kane expressed little interest in representing the Boys in Green.

“There’s no decision there,” the 21-year-old told reporters. “I’m playing for the England U21s and want to break into the senior squad.”
