Heaslip and O'Brien linked with Clermont as contract season looms

The Heineken Cup runners-up are also said to be targeting Ma’a Nonu for this season.

THE TWO CORNERSTONES of Leinster and Ireland’s back-row are being viewed as potential recruits of Clermont Auvergne next season, according to reports in France today.

The Top 14 side will be undergoing a period of transition when Vern Cotter will leave his role as coach at the end of the season and regional news outlet La Montagne today reports that they will look to either Jamie Heaslip or Sean O’Brien to bolster their back-row.

Both players are centrally contracted with the IRFU and both have one year remaining on three-year deals.

According to La Montagne, Clermont are also keen on signing out-of-contract All Black Ma’a Nonu as a centre option this season, while Welsh Lions Alun Wyn Jones and Leigh Halfpenny are also on their wish-list for the 2014/15 season.
