Codding On

Here's what The Rock eats every day to be The Rock

So. Much. Cod.

THE ROCK IS a beast of a man.

Just look at him:

He makes Vin Diesel, who’s a big guy, look like this writer.

But being The Rock and staying The Rock doesn’t just happen. It requires a serious amount of working out and a rigorous meal plan.

The former wrestler turned action star told Muscle and Fitness magazine about his daily regime last week. And it is…enlightening.

To continue being the kind of man who gets paid $15 million per film, The Rock eats seven meals a day. Here’s what he takes on:

MEAL 1

  • 10 oz cod
  • 2 whole eggs
  • 2 cups oatmeal

MEAL 2

  • 8 oz cod
  • 12 oz sweet potato
  • 1 cup veg

MEAL 3

  • 8 oz chicken
  • 2 cups white rice
  • 1 cup veg

MEAL 4

  • 8 oz cod
  • 2 cups rice
  • 1 cup veg
  • 1 tbsp fish oil

MEAL 5

  • 8 oz steak
  • 12 oz baked potato
  • spinach salad

MEAL 6

  • 10 oz cod
  • 2 cups rice
  • salad

MEAL 7

  • 30 grams casein protein
  • 10 egg-white omelette
  • 1 cup veg (onions, peppers, mushrooms)
  • 1 tbsp omega-3 fish oil

So. Much. Cod.

FiveThirtyEight’s Walt Hickey points out that if he takes this on every day, The Rock would eat 821 pounds of cod every year. That’s $1,400 worth of cod.

The Rock is 42 and takes on 5,165 calories a day, around 3,500 more than the average American male of his age. However, he takes on just slightly more fat and slightly less saturated fat.

Of course, he’s working out during this time as he points out:

“I do cardio 4–5 a.m., then take 4–6 scoops of Optimum’s Amino Energy. After cardio I eat breakfast [Meal no. 1].

“After breakfast I hit the iron (weights) for 90 minutes. Post-workout I have 60 grams Optimum Nutrition’s Platinum Hydrowhey with 15 grams of glutamine. Thiry minutes later I consume 32 oz of Gatorade.”

So, if you want to be The Rock, get down to your local fishmongers.
