MORE THAN HALF a million euro worth of heroin was seized by gardaí in Dublin yesterday at a house in Ranelagh.

After a surveillance operation carried out by the drug unit from Kevin Street Garda Station, officers raided a house on Swan Grove yesterday evening. They discovered seven blocks of suspected diamorphine, or heroin, weighing half a kilo each.

The drugs are estimated to have a street value of €525,000.

A man in his 40s was arrested at the scene and is being held at Kevin Street Garda Station. A woman in her 40s, who was also arrested at the house in Ranelagh, has since been released without charge and a file will be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Gardaí said today these types of seizure play a “critical tole” in targeting the livelihoods of criminals and reducing their abilities to carry out illegal activities.
