81-year-old Wexford man James Brennan died in the Wexford crash.

A 16-YEAR-OLD MALE arrested over a hit-and-run collision that killed an 81-year-old Wexford man was released without charge.

The crash happened on 12 January on the N11 outside Ferns when Brennan was driving along with his partner. Their car collided with another with the two occupants of that car fleeing after the crash.

The Wexford People reported that the second car was stolen and that the occupants then stole another car as part of their escape.

Gardaí say they arrested the 16-year-old on Friday in connection with the crash and that he was released without charge on Sunday.

A file has been sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions

*An earlier version of this article said that a 16-year-old had been charged in connection with the case. An Garda Síochana released a statement this afternoon saying that no-one had in fact been charged and that their earlier statement was inaccurate.
