WALES LEGEND JPR Williams has encouraged James Hook to refuse to play at full-back, after he was denied the opportunity to play in his preferred out-half role for the first two games of the tournament.
Williams also believes that Leigh Halfpenny, who made an impact when he came on after Hook picked up an injury in the second half against Samoa, has done enough to warrant a starting place at 15, according to The Sun.
And Williams, who earned 55 caps himself for Wales at full-back, has argued that Hook is not currently playing the role that he is best suited to:
“It’s a different ball-game attacking from full-back than it is from midfield. I think he’s a 10 or 12 – I always have done.”
He added:
“If I was him I would stand up and say, ‘I’m not going to play full-back’.”
Williams also claims that “everybody in Wales” knows Hook cannot play full-back, as he is “not comfortable under the high ball”.
Wales have played two matches so far, beating Samoa and losing to South Africa. If they win their remaining games against Fiji and Namibia, then they are likely to meet Ireland in the quarter-finals.
