Hoop Dreams: Kenny unveiled as new Rovers boss

The Premier Division champions presented their new boss at Tallaght Stadium today.

STEPHEN KENNY GOT the grand tour of Tallaght Stadium today as Shamrock Rovers presented their new manager to the media.

The former Bohemians boss replaces Michael O’Neill, who will take charge of Northern Ireland it was announced today, having left his post at Airtricity League rivals Derry City last week.

O’Neill led the Hoops to consecutive league titles, a Setanta Cup and the group stages of the Europa League during his three-year reign and Kenny aims to keep the silverware coming, having himself won a Premier Division title and five domestic cups during his career.

“They (Rovers) have had a great couple of seasons but I’m not fearful of that,” Kenny said on FM 104.

“We’re looking to build on and continue that over the next couple of seasons. That is my objective.”

Rovers kick off the defence of their title away to Drogheda United on March 2 and Kenny will focus on tying down the majority of last season’s squad to new contracts.

Gary McCabe, Stephen O’Donnell and Chris Turner all re-signed in recent days but full-back Enda Stevens has left for Aston Villa and there is reported interest from England in striker Karl Sheppard.
