THE SCENE AT GOFF’S horse sale yesterday was described as ‘extraordinary’ as a thoroughbred Montjeu colt sold for a whopping €2,850,000.

The price not only represents the highest for a yearling in the Northern Hemisphere this year, it is also the second highest price ever in Ireland. The winning bidder for the expensive horse was MV Magnier.

Goffs described the young colts as “a star in the making” saying they look forward to “following his career which is sure to be at the highest level.”

On Wednesday, another foal at the sale went for €130,000 and is to start its new life at the real-life setting for Downton Abbey.

The bloodstock sales company’s turnover increased by an impressive 28 per cent this year, with 395 sales.
