FRANCE SEES RUSSIA as ‘Napoleon’s Dream’ – and Belgium as ‘semi-France’. Germany, in turn, sees France as ‘Eiffelreich’ and Sweden as ‘IKEA’. Italy sees the lower half of itself as Ethiopia.
That’s all according to a collection of maps spreading like wildfire across the net, created by Bulgarian graphic designer Yanko Tsvetkov, showing maps of Europe laid out as various people from across the continent perceive them.
Tsvetkov, who lives in London, said he created his first map to amuse his local friends when Russia threatened to block off the gas supply to the rest of the continent – and, spurred on by the positive reception, created several more.

Inspired by the maps, Irish cartographer Richard Cantwell has created his own equivalent map of how Ireland sees the rest of the continent. Click the image for a high-resolution version.
