Hunt returns to Team Sky coaching position

Dan Hunt will help lead Sky’s bid for back-to-back Tour de France victories.

TEAM SKY HAVE announced the return of Dan Hunt to it’s performance team in 2013 as Sports Director.

Hunt, who helped guide the British men’s team pursuit quartet to a world record and gold medal at last summer’s Olympics, was part of Team Sky’s debut season in 2010.

However, it shouldn’t take him too long to get reacquainted with his former team mates as Team Sky and British Cycling share a base at the National Cycling Centre in Manchester as well as the same boss, Dave Brailsford.

According to Hunt: “We’ve walked the same corridors with the same people for three or four years now.

“I know everyone on this team and I have a fantastic relationship with them all.”

Hunt will start his new job at the Mallorca Challenge before focus shifts to guiding Team Sky to victory in the grand tours.

As Hunt wasn’t a professional cyclist himself, this task will bring about some unusual challenges:

“I want to learn the races and re-learn the job of a sports director. But maybe also bring different things to the table, because I’m not an ex-pro.”

“I haven’t ridden these races, so I’ve got a bit of homework to do.

“I need to expose myself to as much racing as possible to maximise my learning over the first year.”
