THE FITZGIBBON CUP will be won by a Cork institution in 2012.

Tomorrow’s final at the Mardyke will be an all Cork affair for the first time ever after both University College Cork and Cork Institute of Technology saw off their Limerick rivals.

The Shannon-siders were bidding for a repeat of last year when the final was played out between the two Limerick sides.

Today though, it was Leeside which won out as CIT ran out winner over Limerick Institute of Technology by 0-17 to 1-9.

Davy Fitzgerald’s side trailed by only two points at half time, but only managed a second half tally of 1-1 while CIT racked up another seven scores.

It was a tighter tussle in the later match between the universities, however.

An early Padraig Mahoney goal from the penalty spot proved the difference to give UCC a 1-15 to 0-15 win over UL.
