ARSENAL BOSS ARSENE Wenger has revealed he questioned both his position and tactics when the club went through a tough spell earlier this season.
The Gunners won just one of their opening five games in the Premier League, a run which included an 8-2 humiliation at the hands of Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Wenger said he found it difficult to solve his side’s problems at the beginning of the campaign.
“Of course you question yourself, and you question what you can do about it, even more than you do when all is going well,” Wenger told the club’s official website.
“When things are going well the players, the press and the fans all have more certainty, and so it’s easier. But it’s these moments when experience helps, because it’s important not to question and change the wrong things.”
The Frenchman went on: ”Part of the job is to make decisions, and in the end somebody has to do that. You have to be decisive.”
This introspection appeared to work for Wenger and Arsenal as the team embarked on a run of seven consecutive victories since the turn of the year and have gone ahead of Tottenham in the race for third place.
Wenger said his players deserve a lot of credit for overcoming the misery to propel the team up the table.
“When you have 20 players of the quality we do, you cannot go too far wrong,” he said.
“Any player who comes into the team is good enough. It’s more about the dynamic and the belief of the team that you can have an influence over, or the tactical aspect.”
