IAAF uphold ban on Russian athletes ahead of Olympic Games

A task force found that they did not meet the criteria needed to lift the ban and no vote was taken in Vienna today.

ATHLETICS GOVERNING BODY the IAAF will uphold the ban on Russian athletes competing in this summer’s Olympic Games.

The IAAF implemented a ban on Russian involvement in its competitions in November after evidence of state-sponsored doping was presented in a Wada report. President Seb Coe stated it would not be lifted until there was a clear change in the nation’s approach to anti-doping.

Today, the IAAF council gathered in Vienna and was expected to vote on whether to lift the ban. However, The Guardian reports that the issue was not put to a vote by the council because an investigating task force have not found Russia to have met the criteria for re-entry.
