ICC will reconsider decision to exclude Ireland from 2015 World Cup

Lobbying by Ireland and other associate nations forces cricket’s governing body to think again.

THE IRISH CRICKET team may yet have the chance to compete at the Cricket World Cup in 2015 after the ICC confirmed that they will reconsider their decision to exclude the associate nations.

Earlier this month, the sport’s global governing authority stipulated that the next World Cup would only be contested by the ten test-playing nations, leaving Ireland and 94 other countries out in the cold.

A statement released by the ICC earlier today states that “after receiving representations from the Associate and Affiliate Members of the ICC, the ICC President Mr Sharad Pawar has decided to request the ICC Executive Board to revisit the issue in Hong Kong in June.”

“I have given this matter further serious thought and will request the Board to consider this topic once more,” said Mr. Pawar.

“I can understand the views of the Associates and Affiliates and ICC will seek to deal with this issue in the best way possible.”

Neither the ICC nor Cricket Ireland were immediately available for comment when contacted by TheScore.ie.
