Plan for independent evaluation of pay ends dispute at Tyndall Institute

Staff from IFUT and Siptu had picketed on a number of occasions this year.

A PAY DISPUTE at the Tyndall Institute in Cork has been resolved this afternoon.

Staff at the institute, which is park of University College Cork (UCC), carried out pickets on several occasions this year in a dispute linked to a pay gap with their UCC counterparts.

Statements from both the Irish Federation of University Teachers (IFUT) and Siptu this evening welcomed a decision to carry out an independent evaluation of pay.

It follows talks between the unions and both the Labour Relations Commission and representatives from the Departments of Public Expenditure and Department of Education.

“We look forwards to assisting the evaluation process in whatever way possible to ensure that the issues affecting Tyndall staff can now be quickly resolved fully, without violating existing national agreements,” IFUT General Secretary Mike Jennings said.

Siptu organiser Bill Mulcahy said that members of his union believe the “binding resolution process will allow for a fair and equitable settlement to this dispute which will reflect their professional standing”.

A plan by the union for a further picket tomorrow have been cancelled.
