In demand: Jelavic's father talks up Liverpool move

Liverpool are interested in Rangers’ £6m-rated Croatian striker Nikica Jelavic, according to Mr Jelavic Sr.

LIVERPOOL ARE THE latest English club to enter the race to sign Rangers striker Nikica Jelavic, according to the player’s father.

Phillip Jelavic said that it was “most likely” that his son would move to Anfield before the transfer window closes as manager Kenny Dalglish looks for a quick fix for his side’s poor return in front of goal.

The Anfield club have now scored just five times in their last six league games, culminating in a Saturday’s 3-1 defeat to Bolton which saw them remain in seventh place.

Jelavic, 26, has been heavily tipped to leave Ibrox this month. West Ham’s £6m swoop for the Croatian international, who has 36 goals in 55 games for Rangers, stalled last week and his father now says that Liverpool are his preferred destination.

“We know about the interest of West Ham and QPR,” Phillip Jelavic said (see ESPN). “But Nikica has five or six clubs that are interested, including that of the great Liverpool.

As for West Ham and QPR, Nikica is more ambitious than that. It’s most likely that he’ll sign for Liverpool. But there are a few days until the end of the window, so we’ll see.
