ANDY MURRAY HAS been forced to withdraw from the ATP World Tour Finals with a groin injury.
The world number three visibly struggled during yesterday’s straight-sets defeat against David Ferrer and this evening confirmed his decision to pull out of the end-of-season event in London’s O2 arena.
With just seven weeks to go until the Australian Open in Melbourne, a disappointed Murray conceded that there was little to gain by continuing on and risking further injury.
“It’s one of those things where you kind of hope things are going to get better, but the reality was that wasn’t ever going to happen,” the Scot told the BBC.
I would probably do myself more damage by playing than not.
World number nine Janko Tipsarevic, who has been on standby this week, will step in to replace Murray starting with a game against Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic tomorrow.
