WE’RE ALL AWARE that the International Rules is a hybrid sport that demands different training techniques from our leading Gaelic footballers.
But what exactly is going on here as Pearce Hanley, Colm Begley, Mattie Donnelly and Colm Begley are spotting wielding sticks in Melbourne against some young locals?
Turns out the Irish squad were training at Wesley College in Melbourne and were invited to participate in an art assessment video project with students from the college.
So don’t expect Paul Earley’s side to be deploying this novel tactic when going up against the Aussies in Perth on Saturday 22 November.
Here’s proof of more traditional training methods that the Irish squad were using in today’s light session:
Manager Paul Earley and selector Tony Scullion
Mayo’s Aidan O’Shea and Kildare’s Padraig O’Neill
Kerry’s David Moran and Brisbane Lions Pearce Hanley
Tyrone’s Sean Cavanagh
Mayo’s Kevin McLoughlin
Ross Munnelly of Laois
