IRELAND’S BID TO qualify for their first Women’s Cricket World Cup since 2005 ended with defeat to Pakistan this morning.
A brilliant haul of 90 not out from Javeria Khan, including 14 boundaries, set Ireland a stiff target of 272 to chase in their penultimate Super Six match in Colombo.
Cecelia Joyce and Kim Garth gave Ireland a chance when they combined for a second-wicket stand of 74 before they fell to successive deliveries from Sadia Yousuf in the 27th inning.
Isobel Joyce added 33 but Ireland were bowled all out for 185 with seven balls left.
They play South Africa in their final game on Sunday.
