Irish women's team thumped by US in Portland

Sue Ronan’s side were beaten 5-0 today by the current Olympic champions.

THE IRISH WOMEN’S soccer team suffered a disappointing 5-0 loss against USA in Portland today.

Sue Ronan’s side appeared to be facing a difficult task ahead of their game with the reigning Olympic champions, and so it proved.

An Alex Morgan hat-trick put the hosts well in command going in at half-time, and substitute Sydney Leroux added a second-half brace to compound the visitors’ woe.

USA are now unbeaten in 19 games, and face Ireland again this Saturday at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
