'If they win the Grand Slam, I hope people make a big deal out of it' - Rob Kearney

The Ireland fullback has praised the efforts of the women’s team ahead of their Grand Slam decider.

THE IRISH MEN’S team may have slumped to an away loss in Rome yesterday but there is hope of the Six Nations finishing on a winning note.

The women’s team, having already clinched the championship, can capture their first ever Grand Slam by defeating Italy in Milan this afternoon.

Ireland fullback Rob Kearney and his teammates will be cheering on the ladies today as they seek to make history yet again.

“We’ve watched all of the women’s matches,” Kearney told TheScore.ie. ”Mike Ross is generally pretty good at streaming it online.

They’ve been doing fantastically well, dragging the international rugby name into a positive light.

“Thank God for them because there have been times when we haven’t done that.”

Kearney added, “They’re playing fantastic rugby, are a really strong side and deserve all the credit they’re getting.

“If they do win it I hope we make a big deal out of it because we deserve it.”

RTE have announced that they will broadcast the crucial 6 Nations game. It will be the first time the state broadcaster has shown a live women’s rugby game.

Joanne Cantwell will present coverage from 1.45pm today with Ryle Nugent and former international Rosie Foley providing commentary from Italy.
