Jon Walters (Stoke City 1-0 Liverpool) Walters made and scored the goal which gave Stoke a 1-0 win over Liverpool on Saturday. The striker took a tumble under close attention from Jamie Carragher in the 20th minute, winning a penalty which he fired high past Pepe Reina.
Seamus Coleman (Everton 2-2 Aston Villa) Coleman made his first Premier League appearance of the season as he returned from an ankle ligament injury. The midfielder lasted 81 minutes before he was substituted late on.
Npower Championship
Paddy McCarthy & Sean Scannell (Leeds 3-2 Crystal Palace) Both of Palace’s goals in Saturday’s 3-2 defeat to Leeds came from Irish players. After falling behind to an early goal, club captain Paddy McCarthy levelled matters in the 12th minute when he turned home Mile Jedinak’s corner. Scannell then gave Palace the lead nine minutes later, finishing from close range after some excellent work by Jermaine Easter.
Mark Yeates (Reading 0-2 Watford) Yeates was instrumental in helping Watford to a first win of the season on Saturday. The winger got the Hornets off to a flyer after just 12 minutes when he curled a beautiful dipping free into the bottom corner from all of 25 yards out.
League One
Kevin O’Connor (Wycome 0-1 Brentford) Former U21 representative Kevin O’Connor picked up a valuable three points on the road for Brentford, coolly converting from the spot in the first half.
Scottish Premier League
Paul Heffernan (Kilmarnock 3-2 Dunfermline) Heffernan grabbed two first-half goals in Saturday’s battle at Rugby Park. He sent Dunfermline keeper Paul Gallacher the wrong from the spot for the first, then doubled his personal tally on the stroke of half-time when he latched on to Dean Shiels’s through-ball and slid it into the net.
Graham Stack (Hibernian 0-0 Aberdeen) Stack’s clean sheet ensured that Hibs won their first home point of the season on Saturday.
