On the Move

Irish international Green could make last Derby County appearance tonight

Midfielder is set to leave in the summer after rejecting a new contract.

IRISH INTERNATIONAL PAUL Green could pull on a Derby County jersey for the last time this evening in the glamorous  environs of the Derbyshire Senior Cup final.

The midfielder, who is set to leave the Rams this summer having rejected a new contract, was not involved with the first team squad for last weekend’s victory over Portsmouth and will play no part in their final game of the season at home to Peterborough.

However, Derby boss Nigel Clough is keen to keep the 29-year-old fit ahead of what could be a big summer and so will give the former Doncaster player 60-70 minutes against Buxton of the Evo-Stick Premier League tonight.

Derby beat Buxton 5-0 when the two sides met in the final of the same competition last year.

Hull City, Ipswich Town and Leeds United are all said to be interested in acquiring Green’s services next year but may wait until after the European Championships – Green remains part of Giovanni Trapattoni’s plans – to make their move.
