AN IRISH FILM website says it got a spike in traffic from people seeking out adult films hidden on YouTube under the Irish language.
Last week, journalist Maitíú Ó Coimín discovered that the Irish word for film, ‘scannán’, was being used to conceal porn videos on the website.
The explicit content has since been removed, but Irish film website Scannain.com is reaping the benefits – it’s been seeing a surge in traffic from the dirty beggars hunting for the hidden adult films.
Editor Niall Murphy told DailyEdge.ie that they first noticed something odd about the website traffic on Tuesday, when homepage hits made up more than half of the traffic to the site.
I had a look at the referrals and saw that the most commonly searched-for terms were ‘scannáin’, ‘scannán’, and variations on those two words. Searches for any other adult-themed words would be unlikely to return a match to Scannain.com, as Fifty Shades aside, we tend not to use them.
Murphy said he assumes the Irish Film Board website has seen a similar jump in traffic.
While it’s good to see an increase in the use of the Irish language and a discussion on the same, I would naturally have preferred that it had come about for a better reason… I hope these new visitors aren’t too disappointed.
