Cork midfielder Browne bagged Preston’s winner at Deepdale, his header seeing them 1-0 victors over Queens Park Rangers.
Callum Robinson also featured in the starting XI, while Daryl Horgan and Graham Burke were on the bench.
Elsewhere, O’Brien scored Milwall’s opener in their 2-2 draw against Middlesborough.
The Islington-born Ireland international found the back of the net for the first time since January — and his 30th as a Milwall player — after just 11 minutes.
Daryl Murphy was also on the mark for Nottingham Forest as they drew with Bristol City at Ashton Gate. The Waterford man hit a second-half equaliser.
James McClean could make his Stoke City debut tomorrow as Stoke City get their campaign up and running away to Leeds United.
