Cronin injury only downside to 'humbling' night for Erasmus

The prop had to be replaced during a frenetic first-half.

MUNSTER DIRECTOR OF rugby Rassie Erasmus felt ‘humbled’ after seeing his side run out 27 – 14 winners over a touring Maori All Black side tonight.

The southern province were ferocious in front of a packed Thomond Park, scoring four tries to two in a convincing win over a side stuffed with Super Rugby talent.

“Any time you’re involved against a team like that, the way the Maoris play the game, it’s enjoyable to play against them,” Erasmus told eir Sport post-match.

“They’re just magnificent athletes and the way our guys played, we’re very happy with the win — we’re very proud, but we’re also humbled about that.”

Erasmus expressed humility on another front when it was put to him that he was already part of Munster history after their latest win over ‘international’ opposition. He pointed to the hard work that had already been done in the province and the side Anthony Foley had shaped before he arrived.

“We’re very lucky, myself and Jacques (Nienaber, defence coach). We moved here to the high performance centre and experienced a friend like Axel. We’re humbled to be part of this. You never see this from the outside, you must be in this to feel this crowd.”

The only dampener after a thrilling contest was an injury to prop James Cronin, who was forced off after just 25 minutes.

“It looks like he’s got a back problem. Otherwise it’s just bumps and bruises and not too serious. But I think James Cronin is going to be out for a while.”
