Sunderland accept Wigan bid for McClean - reports

The Ireland winger could soon be on his way to the Championship with the Latics.

WIGAN ATHLETIC HAVE had an offer for Ireland winger James McClean accepted, according to reports.

The 24-year-old Derry native joined the Black Cats from Derry City in 2011 and impressed in his first season but has since fallen down the pecking order under Paolo Di Canio.

The arrival of Italian international Emanuele Giaccherini from Juventus has added more competition in the wide areas and McClean has been linked with Wigan, Blackburn Rovers and Celtic in the past week.

Now Sky Sports are reporting that the Mackems have accepted an undisclosed bid for the Derry native from Wigan, who won the FA Cup but were also relegated to the Championship.

Owen Coyle won his first league game in charge away to Barnsley on Saturday but the Scot is still hoping to bring in a couple of new faces before the transfer window closes next month.
