Jeremy Kyle defends male domestic abuse victim after audience laughs at him

The guest had described how his ex-girlfriend locked him in a flat and he’d had to jump from a third-floor balcony.

DAYTIME TALK SHOW presenter Jeremy Kyle defended a male victim of domestic abuse on his show after the audience laughed at what he had been through.

Kyle intervened after the audience reacted to a guest named Geoff on the show who described how he had been locked in a flat by his abusive ex-girlfriend and had to escape.

The young man was appearing on the programme to confront ex-girlfriend Dani about her abusive behaviour and her alleged cheating. During the course of the interview, he described how she had given him black eyes and punched him during their relationship.

Geoff told host Jeremy Kyle how Dani had locked her in their flat and he had had to escape by jumping off a third-floor balcony.

“I ripped all my back, all my legs, the lot,” he said. “I ended up in hospital because she wouldn’t let me out of the flat”.

Some members of the audience had laughed as he described being locked in and there was widespread laughter as he spoke about jumping off the balcony.

Kyle strongly admonished the audience for the reaction.

“It’s not funny though,” he told them. “If this was the other way around and a woman was sat here and a bloke had locked her in a flat and she had to jump out and injured herself, you lot would not be laughing.

“You would be saying, he’s a complete nightmare, he should be locked up and that’s disgraceful, but somehow if it happens to a bloke that’s funny. That’s not funny, is it?”

The audience applauded Kyle for his impromptu speech.

The host of the controversial show was widely praised on social media for how he dealt with the audience reaction.

The London Independent reports that Dani denied she had ever locked Geoff in the flat. A DNA test carried out to establish the paternity of their two children established that Geoff was the father, and the couple agreed to remain amicable for the sake of the family.
