OSPREYS WILL HONOUR the memory of the late, great Jerry Collins when they play their first home game of the season against Munster next Sunday, 13 September.
The Guinness Pro12 fixture will mark the first time Ospreys have played at the Liberty Stadium since Collins’ tragic death in June.
The former All Black, who made 56 appearances for the Welsh club, died, along with his wife Alana, following a road traffic accident in France.
The couple’s young daughter, Ayla, survived but is receiving ongoing medical treatment in the care of family in Canada.
Ospreys will pay tribute to Collins with a minute’s silence before kick-off while the club have announced the number six jersey will be retired for the game.
“It has been three months since the sad events in the south of France but JC, Alana and Ayla remain firmly in the thoughts of everybody at the Ospreys, and the rugby community internationally,” Andrew Hore, Chief Executive of Ospreys Rugby, said.
“Next Sunday marks the first opportunity that we have had as a rugby club to honour their memory and to celebrate their life with our supporters.
“Over the summer it has become clear exactly how highly regarded JC was by so many people, and we wanted to reflect that in our tributes, which will be done in the Ospreys way; understated, sincere and honest.”
Some of Collins’ former Ospreys team-mates have been invited to pay their tributes while there will be collections on the day to raise funds for the Jerry Collins Memorial Fund.
Kick-off is at 2.30pm and the game is live on TG4.
