Jerry Flannery facing another frustrating six weeks on the sidelines

It’s not good news for the Munster hooker after scan.

JERRY FLANNERY WILL be out of action for up to six weeks, Munster chiefs confirmed this afternoon in a statement.

A scan on the hooker’s calf revealed a torn muscle sustained during Munster’s victory over Ulster at Thomond Park on Saturday night.

Flannery, who was on the road to recovery after a recent injury to his other calf, was introduced as a second-half substitute before he injured his calf in the dying moments of the hard-fought win.

He will now miss two crucial Heineken Cup games as well as Ireland’s opening two games on the RBS 6 Nations Championship against Italy and France.

Munster expect the Limerick man to be out of action for between four and six weeks.

James Coughlan, however, returns to the Reds’ squad after seeing a specialist who confirmed his cheekbone injury was not as serious as first thought.

The team will be announced at midday on Friday.

Munster squad: Wian Du Preez, Darragh Hurley, Tony Buckley, John Hayes, Peter Borlase, Mike Sherry, Damien Varley, Billy Holland, Donncha O’Callaghan, Mick O’Driscoll, Donnacha Ryan, Niall Ronan, James Coughlan, Tommy O’Donnell, David Wallace, Denis Leamy, Tomas O’Leary, Peter Stringer, Scott Deasy, Ronan O’Gara, Paul Warwick, Johne Murphy, Sam Tuitupou, Keith Earls, Lifeimi Mafi, Denis Hurley, Doug Howlett.
