And the women's European athlete of the year is...

Jessica Ennis will be awarded the gong after shouldering the host nation’s medal hopes at the Olympic Games.

MULTI-EVENTS STAR Jessica Ennis of Britain was today named the 2012 women’s European Athlete of the Year.

Ennis claimed Olympic gold in the heptathlon in the London Games in August, setting three personal bests in the seven events for a British record of 6,955 points – fifth in the global rankings.

She also claimed silver in the World Indoor Championships pentathlon in Istanbul in March with 4,965 points, a tally only ever beaten by two other women.
