Joe Kinnear in shock Newcastle return, local media brace themselves

Will we have more memorable, curse-filled press conferences from JFK?

AS ALEX FERGUSON famously said: Football, bloody hell.

One of the former Man Utd manager’s one-time Premier League rivals, Joe Kinnear, is back in employment today.

The ex-Wimbledon manager is on the brink of a shock return to Newcastle United. Kinnear today confirmed he is returning to the club as director of football. The 66-year-old left Newcastle in 2009 after suffering a heart attack.

He was only in charge for six months, leaving in April 2009 just before the club were relegated from the Premier League.

“It’s an interesting role for myself and I don’t think I could be at a better club to do it,” Kinnear told Sky Sports News.

His time on Tyneside is perhaps best remembered for an extraordinary rant at the St James’ Park media, which you can replay below. Warning: there’s lots and lots of swearing.
