IRELAND INTERNATIONAL JON Walters needed surgery on a fractured cheekbone suffered while playing for Stoke City last weekend.

The versatile attacker was forced off during the second half of the Potters’ 1-0 defeat to West Brom after a challenge by Baggies defender Craig Dawson and went under the knife today.

Walters tweeted afterwards that he had requested some cosmetic surgery to look more like club mate Robert Huth:

It’s the latest joke in a Twitter exchange that began on Monday:

The Ireland squad meets up this Sunday for the FAI Awards before a week-long training camp ahead of the Euro 2016 qualifier at home to Poland on 29 March.

And Walters, who is nominated alongside John O’Shea and Aiden McGeady for Senior International Player of the Year, is now a doubt for the crucial game but could yet be available with the help of a protective mask.
