Jonny Sexton plays it safe with English ‘hello’ message for French fans

Racing Metro’s new outhalf chose not to crack out the French.

RACING METRO ARE proving themselves adept at the whole social media lark as they give rugby supporters a behind the scenes look at the club.

The Top 14 side posted a video of Ronan O’Gara’s French lessons on Wednesday and today, with new outhalf Jonny Sexton in Paris, they posted up a Twitter message with a video link.

The link directs fans to the telly.com website and Sexton reels off a short ‘hello’ for his new supporters.

The Irishman says, “Hi, I’m Jonathan Sexton. Just to say hello to all the Racing followers on Twitter. See you during the season.” The 28-year-old steered clear of a French greeting, understandable considering that the last time he studied the language was back in secondary school.

Sexton is expected to make his rugby-playing return several weeks ahead of the Irish Lions that returned from a victorious tour to Australia on 10 July.

Stars such as Brian O’Driscoll and Conor Murray are not expected to start their preseason training regimes until 6 August but Sexton could be in action as soon as 17 August when Racing take on Brive in La Rochelle.
