'If they valued me, it would be there': Jon Walters hits out at Stoke City's contract offer

The attacker’s current deal expires at the end of the season.

REPUBLIC OF IRELAND international Jonathan Walters has poured petrol on the fire as his stand-off over a new Stoke contract continues.

Last night, the 31-year-old scored for the Potters in their 1-1 League Cup draw at Luton and netted in the penalty shoot-out which followed too.

But speaking to BBC Radio Stoke afterwards, the attacker hit out at his current employers for what he views as a derisory offer on a new deal.

In my eyes, if they valued me, it would be there but it’s not. People behind the scenes know why. I’ll leave it with my agents and my lawyer. I can’t really go too much into it.”

“I’ve been here five years and improved every year. I can give you every stat for the past five years and I’m probably in the top two for everything.”

“There’s a contract there. But talk’s cheap on things like that. I’ll leave it for the men behind the scenes to sort.”

Norwich have been sniffing around the former Ipswich striker and tabled a £1.5 million bid for him last week but it was quickly rejected. His current contract expires in June of next year.

He was left out of Mark Hughes’ squad for Stoke’s last league game against the Canaries though he was struggling with a virus in the build-up to the fixture.

It will be interesting to see if Walters is included for the Saturday clash at home to West Brom.
