Details of Katie Taylor's Bray homecoming revealed

Live music and a massive fireworks display will greet the golden girl.

THE DETAILS OF the hero’s welcome for Olympic gold medalist Katie Taylor to her hometown of Bray have been firmed up.

Thousands are expected to line the streets of the Wicklow town on Monday with Bray Town Council urging fans to ‘get out and shout’ for Taylor, fellow Olympic boxer Adam Nolan and coaches Pete Taylor and Zauri Antia.

With live music getting underway at Bray Bandstand at 3pm on Monday, an open top bus will arrive at 5pm and Katie and Adam will be presented to the waiting crowds.

Live music will restart at 5.30pm and the party will continue until 9.30pm, when the night will be rounded off with a huge fireworks display.

Anyone planning to attend is advised to use public transport, and there will be road closures in Bray beginning at 1pm on Strand Road and Meath Road.

Limited parking will be available at Florence Road, Herbert Road, Carlisle Grounds and St. Thomas’ School at Novara Avenue.

A welcome home ceremony is also expected in Mullinagar on Monday for John Joe Nevin, who’ll be bringing home either a silver or a gold medal following his bout this evening.

The Olympic Council of Ireland has said that there will be no immediate Dublin event for the country’s 66 Olympians when they arrive home on Monday, stating that the athletes are eager to spend some time at home first.

TheJournal.ie understands that plans are being made to hold a formal State event honouring Ireland’s participants at Farmleigh in about a fortnight’s time.

The Dublin Airport Authority has also said that no official event will be held at the airport on Monday, apart from a restricted access press conference.
