Keano to miss out as Pearson prepares for Foxes return

Leicester City are expected to confirm Nigel Pearson’s return as manager later this afternoon, according to reports.

ROY KEANE’S STINT in the managerial wilderness looks set to continue after Leicester City moved to tie up a deal which will bring Nigel Pearson back to Filbert Way.

The Corkman had been tipped for a Championship comeback as a replacement for Sven-Goran Eriksson who was dumped last month following a dismal start to the season.

However, local reports this morning indicate that the Foxes will overlook Keane in a stunning about-face which will see Pearson re-appointed just 18 months after quitting to take charge at Hull City.

The Leicester Mercury reports that Pearson and the club agreed terms following talks yesterday. The appointment is expected to be made official later this afternoon.

The ex-Sheffield Wednesday and Middlesbrough defender had great success during his previous two-year spell with Leicester, guiding them back into the Championship at the first attempt in 2008/09 before leading them on a dizzying promotion surge which ended only with defeat to Cardiff City in the play-off semi-finals.

He walked away soon afterwards, citing irreconcilable differences with owner Milan Mandaric and chief executive Lee Hoos, both of whom have since left the club.
