CORK ATTACKER PATRICK Kelly will visit a specialist on Tuesday to determine the extent of the groin injury that saw him being sidelined for last Sunday’s Munster football final against Clare.
Kelly was withdrawn from the Rebels side in a late change before throw-in at the Gaelic Grounds with Fintan Goold, who smashed home Cork’s opening goal, coming into the forward line as a replacement for the Ballincollig man.
The 26 year-old underwent an MRI scan yesterday and told TheScore.ie that he ruled himself out of the provincial decider after receiving medical advice.
“It’s not too bad an injury but it’s been at me for a while, going back until before the game against Kerry in the Munster semi-final. It only started to really affect me after that game and got too sore to train in the couple of weeks before the Clare match. I was going to still chance playing but after getting the medical advice, I decided not to. So I went for the MRI yesterday and I’m seeing a specialist about it tomorrow. I should have a better idea then what the story is with it.”
Time is on Kelly’s side after Cork booked their berth in the All-Ireland quarter-finals on Sunday with those last eight clashes set to take place in Croke Park on the August Bank Holiday weekend.
Cork are also expected to have captain Graham Canty back fit for that clash after he sat out Sunday’s game with a minor strain.
