A FORMER KERRY All-Ireland senior winner, who scored what was described as ‘the goal of the century’ in the 1970 All-Ireland final, passed away this morning.
Den Joe (DJ) Crowley from the Rathmore club in East Kerry won All-Ireland senior football medals with Kerry in 1969 and 1970.
Described as ‘a late developer in football terms’ by the Kerry GAA website, made his championship debut in 1967 without having represented the county in league football.
His career spanned from 1967 to 1971, featuring in the 1968 final which Kerry lost to Down before winning All-Ireland senior medals in 1969 and 1970.
His goal in the 1970 final against Meath was a particularly memorable one.
Crowley also won three National League medals and 3 Munster senior medals with Kerry while at local level, he was a three-time Kerry county senior football champion with divisional side East Kerry in 1965, 1968 and 1969.
