Irish left-back O'Connor secures loan move away from Preston North End

The 23-year-old Wexford native will stay with League Two side Crewe Alexandra until January.

KEVIN O’CONNOR WILL be hoping to experience regular game-time again over the coming months after completing a temporary move away from Preston North End.

The left-back has departed the Championship outfit to join League Two club Crewe Alexandra on loan until 7 January.

The former Ireland U21 international has been out of favour at Preston recently, having not played for the club since December.

O’Connor, who hails from Wexford, moved to Deepdale from Cork City on a three-year deal in the summer of 2017. However, his cause wasn’t helped when manager Simon Grayson left shortly afterwards.

The 23-year-old made nine appearances under Alex Neil, Grayson’s replacement, but was then sent out on loan to Fleetwood Town. He played five times before his spell with the League One club was halted by injury.

O’Connor, who remains contracted to Preston until 2020, hit the headlines earlier this year thanks to a €1 million National Lottery win.

He’ll be available to make his home debut for Crewe in Saturday’s home game against Macclesfield Town, when they’ll aim to pick up their first win in six outings.
