Schmidt presents Cork Con lock Kindregan with UBL Player of the Year gong

Clontarf and Leinster out-half Joey Carbery collected the Rising Star award.

CORK CONSTITUTION MAY have lost this year’s Ulster Bank League final, but the driving force of their second row didn’t go unnoticed as Conor Kindregan was this evening named Player of the Year.

Ireland head coach Joe Schmidt was present to hand out the awards, with the 24-year-old Galway native taking the top prize after an impressive season.

Kindregan, once a Connacht A second row partner of Ultan Dillane, came out on top with competition from Young Munster’s Ger Slattery and Clontarf’s Mick McGrath.

This season’s champions, ‘Tarf had their names on three of the BIG awards on the night. Leinster academy out-half Joey Carbery was named Division 1A Rising Star of the Year ahead of UCD’s Peadar Timmins and Young Munster’s Gearoid Lyons.

Title-winning Andy Wood was named Coach of the Year in Division 1A ahead of David Corkery (Young Munster) and Noel McNamara (UCD). Scott Deasy of Lansdowne collected a reward for being the highest points scorer in the division, while McGrath picked up the gong for most tries.

Here’s a run-down of the main awards handed out at the Aviva Stadium this evening.

  • Ulster Bank Player of the Year – Division 1A: Conor Kindregan, Cork Con RFC.
  • Ulster Bank Top Try Scorer – Division 1A: Mick McGrath, Clontarf RFC.
  • Ulster Bank Top Points Scorer – Division 1A: Scott Deasy, Lansdowne RFC.
  • Ulster Bank Young player of the Year Award – Division 1A: Joey Carbery, Clontarf RFC.
  • Ulster Bank Coach of the Year – Division 1A: Andy Wood, Clontarf RFC.
  • Ulster Bank Player of the Year – Division 1B: Angus Lloyd, Trinity RFC
  • Ulster Bank Player of the Year – Division 2A: Charlie O’Regan, UCC RFC.
  • Ulster Bank Player of the Year – Division 2B: Paddy O’Toole, Highfield RFC.
  • Ulster Bank Player of the Year – Division 2C: Brendan Guilfoyle, Old Crescent.
