KISS MAGAZINE, IRELAND’S answer to Just 17 and Bliss has announced that its current issue will be its last.

The magazine, which is published by Michael O’Doherty’s VIP Group announced the news on its Facebook and Twitter pages this morning.

It’s understood declining readership and falling revenue were the reasons behind the decision to shut down the title. It’s also understood that there will be job losses as a result of the Kiss closure.

Kiss’s ‘big sister’ magazine Stellar is also published by O’Doherty, along with VIP and TV Now.

Former Kiss editor Sarah Breen told DailyEdge.ie that the closure of the teen mag is a huge loss to the Irish publishing landscape:

KISS was like a big sister to teenage girls across Ireland. They turned to us for advice about fashion, make-up, school, boys and sex, and we took that role very seriously, always careful to keep the tone fun while being straight with them.
I got my start in journalism there, met some amazing colleagues who became great friends and I think its departure will be a huge loss.

Readers of the magazine, past and present, as well as former staff have been sharing their sadness at the loss of the title.
