Doughnut restaurant apologises for "KKK Wednesday" ad campaign

Krispy Kreme apologised for the campaign.

A DOUGHNUT CHAIN in the UK has apologised for using the term KKK Wednesday while advertising mid-term activities.

The sign for the Hull branch of Krispy Kreme’s “Krispy Kreme Klub Wednesdays” called the event KKK Wednesdays.

Unsurprisingly, many people were reminded of the Ku Klux Klan, the American white supremacy group.

The Hull Daily Mail quotes a spokesperson for the branch as saying that the posters went to all of the UK’s Krispy Kreme stores. They add that they’ll still have an event today, but they don’t know what it will be called.

A company spokesperson later told The Guardian that the company did not mean to offend.

“Krispy Kreme apologises unreservedly for the inappropriate name of a customer promotion at one of our stores.

“This promotion was never intended to cause offence. All material has been withdrawn and an internal investigation is currently underway.”
