U2 gig to go ahead as scheduled following death of Larry Mullen's father

The band are due to play a concert in Vancouver tomorrow night.

FOLLOWING THE DEATH of Larry Mullen’s father, U2 are reported to be going ahead with their Innocence + Experience tour as scheduled on Thursday night in Vancouver.

Larry Mullen Sr died on Sunday 10 May in the Bons Secours Hospital. He was aged 92.

RTÉ reports the funeral will take place in Dublin either today or tomorrow.

The death notice on RIP.ie reads:

Loving husband of the late Maureen and loving father of the late Mary. Sadly missed by his beloved wife Alice, loving children Cecilia and Larry Jnr, Larry’s partner Ann, grandchildren Becky, Sam, Elvis, Ava and Ezra, sisters Breda, Joan, Kit and Nora, extended family and friends.

The funeral is strictly private.

There was immediate speculation about the concert in Canada going ahead due to the bereavement.

However, it is believed the band will attend the funeral and then travel to Vancouver by private jet. The band will then travel to California and Arizona.

This morning their official Facebook and Twitter accounts publicised that the concerts will go ahead, as planned:
