Irish football's favourite baldy, Lee Carsley, appointed interim Coventry boss

Carsley takes charge at Coventry after Mark Robins left for Huddersfield Town.

FORMER IRELAND INTERNATIONAL Lee Carsley has been appointed as Coventry City manager on an interim basis.

Carsley and goalkeeping coach Steve Ogrizovic take charge of the Sky Blues this weekend after manager Mark Robins’ sudden departure to Huddersfield Town.

Carsley, who won 40 caps for Ireland and played at the 2002 World Cup, has worked as an underage and first-team coach with Coventry for the last two years.

The promotion is likely to be a short-term one as City bosses confirmed today that the search for Robins’ successor is already heating up. Coventry are currently eighth in League One, seven points outside of the play-off places.

“I have watched a lot of League One football this year, it isn’t rocket science,” Carsley, 38, told the club’s official website.

“I may not have that much coaching experience but I had a lot of experience playing at the highest level and I want this side to play at a high-tempo.

“In terms of my personal development, I think I am doing well and picking up some good experience. I am only thinking of the short term though and I just want to make sure the players are in a position to get the club the win in the next few games.”

Coventry travel to relegation-threatened Bury this weekend.
