CARLOW SFC
Éire Óg will face Palatine in this year’s county senior football final after they defeated O’Hanrahan’s in Saturday afternoon’s semi-final by 3-11 to 0-7.
The decider will take place next Sunday in Dr Cullen Park with Éire Óg last having triumphed in 2008 while Palatine were champions in 2006.
KILDARE SFC
Sarsfields will meet Carbury in this year’s final after they both claimed victories over the weekend in their semi-final clashes. Carbury got the better of reigning champions Athy by 0-15 to 0-12 in their semi-final tie on Saturday with Eoghan O’Flaherty notching 0-10.
Sarsfields defeated St Laurence’s yesterday by 1-11 to 1-9. The teams were level at 0-5 apiece at the break, Alan Smith (Sarsfields) and Ronnie Lawlor (St Laurence’s) traded goals in the second-half before Sarsfields kicked the last three points of the game to progress to the county final.
LAOIS SFC
Portlaoise remain on course for a sixth successive county senior football title after they dismissed the challenge of St Joseph’s by 2-17 to 0-4 in their semi-final tie in O’Moore Park yesterday. The winners lead by 1-8 to 0-1 at an early juncture and pulled clear comfortably by the finish.
The first semi-final transpired to be a tighter affair with Arles-Kilcruise grinding out an 0-11 to 0-7 win over O’Dempsey’s. The first-half was a low-scoring affair with Arles-Kilcruise narrowly in front by 0-3 to 0-2 but the winners managed to up their game in the second-half to clinch a four-point success.
LOUTH SFC
Aidan McCann’s goal helped propel St Patrick’s to a 1-13 to 0-7 final victory against Dreadnots in Drogheda yesterday. The victory ensured St Patrick’s, inspired by county midfield star Paddy Keenan, retained their title. They will now look forward to a Leinster Club SFC first round tie in Tullamore on October 28th against the winners of next Sunday’s Offaly county final between Rhode and Clara.
OFFALY SHC
It was a historic first ever triumph for Kilcormac-Killoughey yesterday in the Faithful county as they got the better of St Rynagh’s by 2-15 to 2-9 in Tullamore. St Rynagh’s had lead by 2-8 to 1-7 at half-time with Diarmuid Horan and Gary Kelly finding the net for them while Ciaran Slevin registered Kilcormac-Killoughey’s goal.
But Kilcormac-Killoughey fought back in the second-half with Kevin Grogan’s goal the critical score in enabling them to fashion a six-point victory. They now advance to a Leinster club quarter-final meeting on November 4th with the winners of the Carlow county final, Mount Leinster Rangers or Erins Own.
WEXFORD SFC
Redmond Barry inspired St Anne’s to a 2-14 to 0-8 victory in their county senior decider against Castletown in Wexford Park yesterday. The triumph was St Anne’s first since 2001 with Mark Furlong finding the net in the early stages for St Anne’s.
The winners were ahead by 1-6 to 0-4 at the break with Barry firing home their second goal after the interval to essentially seal the contest. St Anne’s will now travel to face the Longford champions, Longford Slashers or Emmet Óg, in the first round of the Leinster Club SFC on October 28th.
WICKLOW SFC
St Patrick’s atoned for their final defeats in 2008 and 2009 to claim a 1-12 to 0-14 final success against Baltinglass in Aughrim yesterday. The teams were level at the break, 1-4 to 0-7, before St Patrick’s got in front at the final whistle to secure their first success since 2006.
They will now meet the winners of next Sunday’s Carlow SFC final, between Palatine and Éire Óg, in Aughrim in the Leinster club first round on October 28th.
