RESULT: Limerick 0-24 Cork 0-15

Welcome to a baking hot Gaelic Grounds as the senior hurlers of Cork and Limerick prepare to do battle in this year’s Munster final.

Here’s the Cork team named to start today.

CORK: Anthony Nash (Kanturk); Shane O’Neill (Bishopstown), Stephen McDonnell (Glen Rovers), Conor O Sullivan (Sarsfields); Tom Kenny (Grenagh), Christopher Joyce (Na Piarsaigh), William Egan (Kilbrin); Lorcán McLoughlin (Kanturk), Daniel Kearney (Sarsfields); Seamus Harnedy (St Ita’s), Cian McCarthy (Sarsfields), Pa Cronin (Bishopstown); Luke O’Farrell (Midleton), Patrick Horgan (Glen Rovers), Conor Lehane (Midleton).

LIMERICK: Nickie Quaid (Effin); Stephen Walsh (Glenroe), Richie McCarthy (Blackrock), Tom Condon (Knockaderry); Paudie O’Brien (Kilmallock), Wayne McNamara (Adare), Gavin O’Mahony (Kilmallock); Paul Browne (Bruff), Donal O’Grady (capt, Granagh-Ballingarry); David Breen (Na Piarsaigh), James Ryan (Garryspillane), Seamus Hickey (Murroe-Boher); Graeme Mulcahy (Kilmallock), Declan Hannon (Adare), Seanie Tobin (Murroe-Boher).

Limerick have just come out onto the field and are unchanged from the semi-final win over Tipperary.

Cork have also just come out onto the field to warm up.

Both sides were earlier on the pitch, pucking around but are now togged out. Limerick have their green jerseys on while Cork are wearing training tops.

James McGrath of Westmeath is the man in the middle for today’s game.

Big day for John Allen. The current Limerick manager has plenty knowledge of the Cork hurlers from his time in charge of the Rebels. Anthony Nash, Shane O’Neill, Tom Kenny, Patrick Cronin and Cathal Naughton from today’s Cork squad would all have played under Allen.

Here’s the Cork substitutes list for the game.

Subs: Darren McCarthy (Ballymartle), Kilian Murphy (Erin’s Own), Pa O’Mahony (Midleton), Colm Spillane (Castlelyons), Mark Ellis (Millstreet), Stephen White (Ballygarvan), Rob O’Shea (Carrigaline), Cathal Naughton (Newtownshandrum), Jamie Coughlan (Newtownshandrum), Stephen Moylan (Douglas), Michael Cussen (Sarsfields).

And here’s the Limerick substitutes for the game.

Subs: Aaron Murphy (Hospital/Herbertstown), Mark Carmody (Patrickswell), Cathal King (Na Piarsaigh), Alan Dempsey (Na Piarsaigh), Shane Dowling (Na Piarsaigh), Conor Allis (Croom), Niall Moran (Ahane), Kevin Downes (Na Piarsaigh), Paudie Aherne (Kilteely/Dromkeen), Tommy Quaid (Effin), Thomas Ryan (South Liberties).

There’s a terrific atmosphere here in the Gaelic Grounds. The sun has come out and there’s brilliant weather for this match. And the stadium is packed to the rafters. There’s a massive Limerick support in particular here.

Can Jimmy Barry-Murphy steer Cork to glory today?

The pre-match parade is under way.

It’s hard to remember a Munster final that has been as eagerly anticipated as this one. It’s a hugely novel pairing. The first since 1999 that does not feature Tipperary or Waterford and the first between Cork and Limerick in 1992.

Cork are going for their first Munster senior title since 2007 while Limerick are chasing their first Munster senior title since 1996.

It promises to be a cracker here in the Gaelic Grounds. We can’t wait for it and we’re just moments away from throw-in.

The teams break away from the parade as we get set for throw-in.

The national anthem is over and we’re getting set for action.

Lorcan McLoughlin gone to centre-back for Cork with Christopher Joyce starting at midfield.

Limerick 0-1 Cork 0-0: 1 mins – Paudie O’Brien fires over an early point for Limerick. The captain leads by example.

Limerick 0-1 Cork 0-1: 1 mins – Cork hit back straight away with a point from Daniel Kearney.

Limerick 0-2 Cork 0-1: 2 mins – Declan Hannon points for Limerick.

The Adare youngster did brilliantly there to burst through the Cork rearguard and scored. He’s such a vital player for John Allen’s side.

Limerick motoring nicely in the early stages.

Limerick goal chance but David Breen blazes wide.

Seamus Harnedy cuts in for Cork but shoots wide off his left.

Harnedy had worked extremely hard to dispossess the Limerick defence to engineer that chance.

Mammoth free from distance by Cork goalkeeper Anthony Nash but the ball drops wide.

Limerick 0-4 Cork 0-1: 6 mins – At the other end Limerick’s accuracy is impressive as James Ryan raises a white flag.

Limerick 0-4 Cork 0-2: 7 mins – Patrick Horgan hits back with a Cork point.

Really good work by Seamus Harnedy there to lay the ball off to Horgan.

Conor Lehane shoots wildly and wide for Cork.

Limerick 0-4 Cork 0-3: 11 mins – The gap is down to the minimum with Harnedy pointing for Cork.

That score arrived after a superb break out of defence by Christopher Joyce and he placed the ball methodically into the path of Harnedy.

Good start to the game by Harnedy at full-forward for Cork. He made his championship debut in the semi-final win last month against Clare and won the man-of-the-match award in that game.

Bad wide by Limerick’s Declan Hannon from a free from a favorable angle.

Anthony Nash takes a quick puck out that is plucked from the air brilliantly by Patrick Cronin. That aerial strength is what he brings to the Cork attack.

Limerick 0-4 Cork 0-4: 13 mins – And Cronin is fouled with Patrick Horgan firing over the free for Cork subsequently.

Cork 0-5 Limerick 0-4: 14 mins – Now Cork are in front with Horgan on target from play.

Home support getting a little restless here. Limerick’s play has become a little ragged so far, they’re not sparkling like they did in the early stages against Tipperary.

Did Cork have claims for a penalty there? Luke O’Farrell looked to have been dragged down.

An even better goal chance for Cork with Patrick Horgan dragging a ground shot wide and across the goal.

Limerick 0-5 Cork 0-5: 17 mins – Graeme Muclahy scythes through the Cork cover and points.

Cork 0-6 Limerick 0-5: 19 mins – Luke O’Farrell is fouled and Patrick Horgan converts the free for Cork.

Seamus Harnedy with Cork’s latest wide.

Limerick’s shooting is poor as well with Paul Browne off target for them.

Harnedy has Richie McCarthy in problems at the edge of the square, he’s just been fouled by the Limerick defender.

Cork 0-7 Limerick 0-6: 25 mins – And Horgan converts the free to edge Cork back in front.

Cork 0-8 Limerick 0-6: 25 mins – Captain Patrick Cronin notches Cork’s latest point.

Cork 0-8 Limerick 0-7: 26 mins – David Breen is pulled back as he gallops through the Cork defence and Limerick’s Declan Hannon taps over the resultant free.

Better from Richie McCarthy in the Limerick defence as he protects the ball and wins a free out.

Cork 0-9 Limerick 0-8: 28 mins – Seamus Harnedy turns inside the Limerick cover and fires over off his left but Limerick respond with a neat point by Paul Browne.

Ten wides from Cork to date, three from Limerick.

Cork 0-10 Limerick 0-8: 30 mins – Patrick Cronin splits the posts with a point for Cork.

Magnificent defending by Shane O’Neill to dispossess Declan Hannon and clear his lines.

Red card for Cork’s Patrick Horgan!

Half-Time: Cork 0-10 Limerick 0-10: And that’s how it stands at the break as the teams are level.

That dismissal of Horgan though is a big talking point for a challenge on Paudie O’Brien it seems.

We’ll be back shortly with the second-half action from a sweltering Gaelic Grounds.

Limerick are back out on the field, we await the arrival of Cork.

Patrick Horgan walks along the sideline, he’s now wearing a Cork training top. A disappointing end to his afternoon after what looked a contentious decision by the referee.

Now Cork are back out.

The second-half is under way. Limerick’s spare man looks to be Stephen Walsh at the moment.

But now it’s Paudie O’Brien who is the spare man in the Limerick rearguard.

Cork half-time substitution with Jamie Coughlan on for Cian McCarthy.

Limerick 0-11 Cork 0-10: 37 mins – Limerick edge in front through a Graeme Mulcahy point but he follows that up with a wide.

Cathal Naughton is on for Cork instead of Conor Lehane, who had a quiet outing.

Limerick 0-13 Cork 0-11: 42 mins – James Ryan restores Limerick’s two-point advantage.

Cork are hanging in there after that controversial sending-off though and not letting Limerick go clear.

Limerick 0-15 Cork 0-12: 50 mins – Declan Hannon outfields Shane O’Neill to point after Shane Dowling pumped in a high ball. Limerick creating a little gap on the scoreboard now.

Limerick 0-16 Cork 0-12: 51 mins – Now they go four points clear as Shane Dowling raises a white flag.

Is tiredness starting to set in for Cork and can Limerick continue to exploit the extra man they possess?

Conor Allis comes on for Limerick instead of Graeme Mulcahy.

Limerick 0-17 Cork 0-12: 53 mins – James Ryan smashes over a magnificent point from distance for Limerick.

Limerick 0-17 Cork 0-13: 54 mins – Cork point from Seamus Harnedy. That was a badly needed score to stem the tide of Limerick dominance.

Michael Cussen comes on for Luke O’Farrell on the Cork team.

42,370 is the confirmed attendance in Limerick today.

Another costly wide for Cork from Lorcan McLoughlin. They need to take all the chances they can get.

Limerick 0-17 Cork 0-14: 57 mins – Good point for Cork from Cathal Naughton, his first of the game.

Cathal King replaces Paudie O’Brien in the Limerick defence.

Limerick 0-17 Cork 0-15: 59 mins – Now 14-man Cork are only two points adrift as Patrick Cronin bangs over a point.

Two minutes of injury-time.

Limerick fully deserving victors but no doubt the sending-off of Patrick Horgan was a major turning point.

Limerick 0-24 Cork 0-15: 70 mins – Limerick really exploiting the space and Niall Moran points now.

There’s going to be a huge pitch invasion here in the Gaelic Grounds.

The Limerick fans are lining up all around the pitch.
