Monaghan happy to allow Dublin have the ball up to their 45 and then break with speed once the ball is turned over. They’re flooding the area between the 21 and 45 with players.

That’s the anthem over, Padraig Hughes of Armagh is the man in the middle tonight. Decent conditions for football tonight.

Philly McMahon with a bad wide after the corner-back made a run the length of the field.

Dublin shooting into the Hill in the first half.

Dublin 0-0 Monaghan 0-1

A McManus free gets the scoreboard going, Monaghan tackling very well early on.

A beautiful score from Cormac Costello. He turns on a sixpence and swings it over with the left foot. Very tidy.

Dublin 0-1 Monaghan 0-1

Dublin 0-1 Monaghan 0-2

That’s why Conor McManus is considered one of the best in the business, wonderful score from play by the Farney talisman.

Great intensity to this. Both sides hitting hard and breaking at speed.

Yellow card for Monaghan wing-back Karl O’Connell. He was probably lucky it wasn’t black.

Dublin, through Connolly and Rock, have also dropped two-long range frees short into the arms of Rory Beggan.

Dublin 0-2 Monaghan 0-3

Different class from McManus. Way out on the right wing, he has no right to be taking that shot on, never mind split the posts. Stunning stuff.

GOAL CHANCE for Monaghan but DCU man Shane Carey’s effort is well blocked and Cluxton clears the danger.

Dublin 0-2 Monaghan 0-2

McMahon makes know mistake this time, he slots this like a traditional number 15. A run out towards the ball, and he kicks it over on the turn.

Dublin 0-3 Monaghan 0-7

Dean Rock pulls one back for the Dubs from a free.

Dublin 0-2 Monaghan 0-5

The Farney men are on a serious roll right now.

They’re winning the breaks in midfield and making the most of them. Owen Duffy and Darren Hughes on target from play.

Dublin 0-2 Monaghan 0-6

Another breaking ball won by Monaghan earns a free about 40m out.

McManus skies the free like you would a nine-iron and it comes to land just over Cluxton’s crossbar.

Dublin 0-2 Monaghan 0-7

Excellent stuff from Monaghan, who are forcing Cluxton to kick it long off the tee and reaping the rewards.

Kieran Hughes, this time, makes easy work of Fitzsimons with a dummy, which is an achievement in itself, before coolly slotting it over the bar.

Dublin 0-5 Monaghan 0-7

Connolly has his best spell on the ball. His patient plays draws in some Monaghan defenders and he eventually fists it off to O’ Conghaile. The Lucan man points from 25 metres with his left.

Only moments later Rock adds another from play after Monaghan turn it over.

Great game of football this, being played at a serious tempo.

Dublin 0-6 Monaghan 0-9

The Monaghan forwards are out in front and winning clean ball, that’s something you don’t see too often. Excellent movement from the forwards and the deliveries from out the field are matching it.

The latest is from Conor McManus to Darren Hughes, who is fouled.

McManus adds a point from an easy free, not that it seems to make a difference for him where it is from.

Dublin 0-6 Monaghan 0-8

Monaghan wing-back Kieran Duffy channels his inner Brian Dooher as he booms a kick off the outside of the right boot from way out on the right flank.

The Tyrone legend would have been proud of that one.

Rock replied with a free for the Dubs.

Dublin 0-7 Monaghan 0-9

McMahon with his second of the night. 28 minutes gone. 16 scores in less than 30 minutes, super stuff.

Dessie Mone on for the injured Kieran Hughes.

Dublin 0-8 Monaghan 0-9

Dean Rock adds another free with less than two minutes to play in the half.

Dublin 0-9 Monaghan 0-9

Another free from Rock, that’s five points for him. Two minutes of injury time added on.

HT: Dublin 0-10 Monaghan 0-9

An excellent Rock free, this time from the ground, gives the Dubs a one-point lead at the break.

That was the kind of placed ball he had been dropping short or shanking wide in recent times.

An excellent first-half of football, Monaghan are probably wondering how they’re behind after playing so well.

This one will be a real test of early-season fitness.

We all know Croke Park isn’t a forgiving place, especially against such an athletic Dublin outfit.

A gripping second half awaits.

A familiar face was back in Croke Park with the Dubs today, their new high performance manager, and former captain, Bryan Cullen.

HT: Armagh 1-5 Fermanagh 0-6

The teams are back on the field in Croke Park.

And we’re under way again, let’s hope the intensity and quality doesn’t drop.

Both sides have a made a change.

Monaghan: Conor Boyle in for Ryan Wiley

Dublin: Shane Carthy (Naomh Mearnóg) in for Denis Bastick

PENALTY to Dublin, Flynn is bundled over after a high ball into the square causes havoc.

Dublin 1-11 Monaghan 0-9 (Connolly ’42 pen)

Dublin 0-11 Monaghan 0-9

Rock adds another free, his sixth place ball, and seventh point of the night.

The Ballymun man won the free himself after getting out in front of Dessie Mone. The Monaghan substitute then gave away a silly free as he knocked Rock off his feet.

This is the best game I’ve seen Rock play for quite a while, from play and frees.

Dublin 1-11 Monaghan 0-10

A McManus free makes it a four-point game.

Connolly makes no mistake, he sends Beggan the wrong way.

Bernard Brogan is on for Paul Flynn, uncertain whether it’s permanent or a blood sub. He looked a bit shaken after being fouled by Colin Walshe for the penalty.

The intensity certainly hasn’t dropped anyway. Tackles flying in.

Dublin 1-11 Monaghan 0-12

Another McManus free. Great spell by the Ulster side.

End to end stuff, this has been terrific.

Dublin 1-11 Monaghan 0-11

Another McManus free. Good response from the Farney men.

Ryan McAnespie is on for Owen Duffy.

Two changes for Dublin — Jonny Cooper on for Michael Fitzsimons and Paul Flynn is back on the field. He replaces Tomás Brady.

It’s all square at the Athletic Grounds at the moment.

Armagh 1-5 Fermanagh 0-8

Monaghan go direct with a high ball and it breaks for wing forward Carey about 10m out. His shot his blocked on to the post by McMahon though and Cluxton clears the danger.

Dublin 1-12 Monaghan 0-13

Right on cue, Brogan shows well and gives it off to Flynn, and the Fingallians man strokes it over. Classy score.

Philly Ryan on for Dean Rock. Paul Flynn is down again.

This was a bit bizarre, Brady had stayed on the field even though his number had been shown.

He is definitely off now, as you were…

Dublin 1-11 Monaghan 0-13

Another McManus free makes it a one-point game.

Conor McCarthy comes on for Dermot Malone.

Dublin 1-12 Monaghan 0-14

McManus into double figures with another free.

The fielding of Darren Hughes causes O’Sullivan problems, the Kilmacud Crokes man concedes a free and receives a yellow card. McManus does the rest.

He looked like he had be taken out of it off the ball but no action taken by Eddie Kinsella.

Dublin 1-12 Monaghan 0-15

I’ve said it before…but what a special footballer.

McManus wins his own ball, swivels on to his right and gets the equalising score.

That man does not deserve to lose today.

Dublin 1-12 Monaghan 0-16

Another McManus free!

Brian Fenton and the other Shane Carthy (St Vincent’s on now too).

Connolly has gone off.

Dublin 1-13 Monaghan 0-16

Make that 1-3. Costello with an excellent score after an excellent gather and pass from Andrews.

Two minutes to go.

FOUR minutes of additional time….

You can’t beat this. Great stuff.

Cracking finish coming up in Croker, Dublin have only scored 1-2 in the second half.

Black card for Philly Ryan now, still waiting on a Dublin sub.

An injury to Costello has delayed play, still about 90 seconds to go I make it.

Dublin are managing this well though and keeping the ball well.

Dublin 1-14 Monaghan 0-16

Bernard Brogan with a peach of a score.

Super game of football.

Conor McManus was by far the best footballer on the park. A bit like Tipp’s Seamus Callanan in the All-Ireland semi-final last year, you’d feel for him losing that one.

That’s all from me for tonight, thanks for joining us.

Match report to follow soon.

FT: Dublin 1-14 Monaghan 0-16

Dublin showed why they are champions after grinding out an excellent win.

They didn’t hit top gear but never looked ruffled, they were always confident that they’d have enough to see it out.

In Division 2, by the way, it finished:

FT: Armagh 1-10 Fermanagh 0-12

A late Tomas Corrigan free tied it up at the Athletic Grounds before Stefan Campbell won it with the last kick of the game for the Orchard men.

A bit of handbags at the end too.
