Hello, and welcome to this evening’s FAI Cup second round game between Shelbourne and Bray Wanderers.

While you’re waiting for the game to kick off, you can click here for a preview of this game, along with the weekend’s other ties.

Of course, there are 11 ties taking place in all tonight, and as you can see, we’ll be keeping you updated on the scores above.

And we’re underway…

Here is the Bray team by the way:

Bray: Darren Quigley, Pierce Sweeney, Danny O’Connor, Kevin Knight, David Webster, Kieran ‘Marty’ Waters, John Mulroy, Sean Houston, Adam Hanlon, Dean Zambra, Jason Byrne,

And here is the Shelbourne team:

Shelbourne: Dean Delany, Barry Clancy, Andrew Boyle, Gareth Matthews, Brian Shortall, Kevin Dawson, Glenn Cronin, David Cassidy, Paddy Kavanagh, Philip Hughes, Philip Gorman.

Deary me! The crowd at the Carlisle Grounds aren’t exactly endearing themselves to RTE by chanting in a derogatory fashion about the station.

Not too much to speak of so far, save one or two half chances for either side.

Sean Houston is booked for what looked a relatively tame challenge, though the referee seemingly adjudged it to be a dangerous tackle, and thus produces the yellow card.

Shelbourne are edging it at the moment in terms of possession and chances (or rather, half chances), but Bray haven’t had to cope with too much pressure so far.

Philip Hughes has just curled a free kick well over the bar, epitomising his side’s lack of a cutting edge in front of goal so far.

Seconds later, he produces another attempt, which goes narrowly wide – he never struck it with any real conviction though.

Big chance for Shels as Quigley makes a terrific point-blank save from a powerful downward header by Gorman.

GOAL FOR SHELBOURNE!

Barry Clancy hits a dangerous free kick into the box, and it eludes everyone, including the goalkeeper, curling into the far corner of the net in the process.

An unimpressed Pat Devlin tells RTE that “we haven’t turned up, we must be camera shy,” adding that his side are not “getting their foot on the ball and playing with it”.

A rare chance for Bray, as the ball falls to Byrne on the edge of the box, after Shels fail to clear the ball properly. The veteran forward strikes it reasonably well, but it’s more or less straight at Delany, unfortunately for the home side.

HALF-TIME: BRAY 0-1 SHELBOURNE

So at half-time, Shels undoubtedly deserve their 1-0 lead.

The visitors have had all the main chances so far, while Bray have been particularly disappointing in the final third of the field, failing to make the most of a few promising counter-attacks.

Pat Devlin’s side need to step up their game, or prepare themselves for an early cup exit.

RTE’s Pat Dolan has identified “the bench, the tactical situation and the midfield area” as three areas that Bray will hope to improve on in the second half.

He also backs up Pat Devlin’s suggestion that some of the home side’s younger players may be affected by the TV cameras at the match.

John Mulroy appears to be playing further forward in this second half, as Bray look to adopt a more attacking mindset as they search for an equaliser.

(John Mulroy reacts to a missed chance – INPHO/James Crombie)

Paddy Kavanagh finds himself in a good position on the far side of the box, and his half volley narrowly misses the top corner.

Another half chance for Bray as Adam Hanlon’s shot is deflected away for a corner. There are increasing signs that Bray are still capable of getting back into this game.

Another disappointing shot from Kieran ‘Marty’ Waters, who scuffs his shot wide from the edge of the area. Their finishing in those type of areas so far really has been poor.

GOAL FOR BRAY!

Kieran ‘Marty’ Waters latches on to a hopeful ball upfield after the defender fails to deal with it. Delany rushes out of his goal all too hastily, and Waters rounds him and slots it in from a difficult angle. Excellent finish.

Bray look a different team since the start of the second half. Switching to two up front has given them a far greater attacking threat, and Devlin’s words at half-time probably had an effect too.

Pat Devlin tells RTE he’s “pleased for the lads and anyone who enjoys the game,” owing to his side’s significant second-half improvement.

Controversial…

With 25 minutes to go, if there is to be a winner, Bray currently look the far more likely team to grab a goal.

Shelbourne must wonder how this second half has passed them by, given their first-half dominance.

Alan Matthews says his side “need to get more organised” and adds that they may be suffering from fatigue.

Adam Hanlon has just wasted a glorious chance, hitting it straight at Delany when through on goal. Byrne also could have done much better with the rebound, which he blasted well over.

Bray continue to look the more threatening side.

If it does go to a replay by the way, the game would take place at Monday evening in Tolka Park.

‘Marty’ Waters hits a glorious chance just wide when played through on goal.

The Bray goalscorer is at least given the man of the match award by RTE as compensation.

FULL-TIME: BRAY WANDERERS 1-1 SHELBOURNE

RTE just took the words out of my mouth. It was very much ‘a game of two halves’ if you’ll pardon the cliché, with Shels the better side in the first half and Bray superior in the second period.

The goalscorer Waters admits that Pat Devlin was disappointed with Bray in the first half, but says they “upped it” in the second period.

Right, that’s your lot from me for this evening. Thanks for reading, and enjoy your weekend.
